The Meta Robots Extension provides the ability to set meta robots values for any URL, module, controller, action or parameter.
For many browse pages in Magento like checkout, customer account, or pages with parameters (like filtered category), you may not want a search engine to index them. But you would still want search engines to follow links to category, product pages. It's very easy:
- - Go to System - Configuration - Magidev - Meta Tags - Meta Robots
- - Add Rules (Example: NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW for categories with parameter mode or order URL Pattern = "mode|order" and Option must be "NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW")
- - Then save settings. Done!
The URL Pattern can be a full action name (Example: customer_account_edit - for action "edit" or customer_account_* for all actions of controller "account") or request path(Example: /customer/account/edit/ or /customer/account/* ) or parameters separeted with | -it will be interpreted as OR/AND (Example: mode|order|limit).
Google not recommended to use a rel canonical link and no index no follow on the same page. To do it, you can use the option "Disable Canonical Tag on Page", the rel canonical link will be removed if meta robots tag is NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW or NOINDEX,FOLLOW
